Making
a podcast for this week’s session was quite interesting. It was easy to make
however really difficult at the same time. The technological part of creating
the podcast was really simple, which I did through SoundCloud. My friend and I
share a SoundCloud account to listen to one of our favourite bands. Since I was
already familiar with SoundCloud, creating the podcast was literally as easy as
a touch of a button however, it was the recording of the podcast where I ran
into some difficulties. I have listened to many podcasts on iTunes and on the
radio and they always make it seem like an easy task to complete but it was
not; I had to start over probably 10 times until I was happy with the outcome but
once I finally liked what I had recorded, I was happy with my podcast.

Podcasts
can greatly contribute to my digital literacy, if used correctly. There are
many academic podcasts and podcasts for a wide variety of interests. They are
yet another way to have information presented to you, instead of you having to
go out and look for it which makes it a great time saver. My favourite radio
station does podcasts for a couple of their shows and later upload them so
people can listen at any time. With podcasts, I am also able to expand my
digital citizenship by getting my voice out there on the Internet while
expressing myself and my ideas. Therefore, podcast screencast tools help make
it easier to improve my digital literacy because of the visual and audio aspect
that are combined. It enhances my ability to learn about digital tools and
software quicker and with more depth. In addition, it can help improve my
digital communication by talking to the viewers in a concise and respectful
manner. Overall, making my podcast was a fun and educational experience and I
would like to try making one again in the future. I recommend SoundCloud to
anyone thinking about making a podcast because of its easy-to-use set up.
Creating
my podcast got me thinking more about digital responsibility since I wanted to
share an aspect that I thought was most important. In previous posts I had
mentioned that I thought proper technology use was the most important aspect of
being a digital citizen. For example knowing when and where is the appropriate
time to use technological devices. However, now that we have been discussing
citing and copyright in the past few sessions, I have moved towards believing
that citing is a more important aspect of being a digital citizen. I was happy
to gain the opportunity to tell my readers my new and altered thoughts on which
aspect I find to be the most important through the creation of my podcast.
Do listen to mine below :)
